Friday racing was a total washout at all three tracks in the Daytona Beach area.
We went to the NESCOT luncheon at the Daytona Beach Country Club which produced fewer attendees this year. Maybe it was partly because there was nothing in the newsletter about the event. Even so, Bill Wimble did make it, he came with Dick Waterman. Bill is still his same gentlemanly self, gracious to everyone and proud of the Fonda Speedway 50 years hat he was wearing. Rain probably had much to do with the slim attendence. The usual raffle raised money for the club and news from up north is that the annual steak roast has moved, to the Nassau Sportsman Club this summer. Not sure of the date.
The restaurants were loaded due to the cancellation of the truck race on Friday night. We went to the movies (The Book of Eli) and then to eat before going back to the hotel for the opening ceremonies of the Olympics.
Saturday morning brought cloudy weather and very cool but we won’t belabor the cool part because it’s probably still better than up north….not much though.
Right now we are relaxing in the room before heading to the final night of racing at Volusia. It will be another night of warm clothes and great racing.
